  • Falls of the Kalama, ?6 April 1857. By permission of the Warden and Scholars of Winchester College.

Lear had visited the waterfall nine years earlier (in November 1849) and admired the view in spite of "the incessant drizzle of sleet, with bitter wind".
The falls no longer exist, having collapsed in 1895 after a violent rainstorm. Today a bridge spans the River Kalamas at this point.
